Who We Are

The best way to introduce you to our church is to tell you about the first New Testament Church in the Bible. In Acts 2:42-47 we’re told of eight biblical commitments:

  1. The Teaching of the Apostles (Acts 2:42a) – This new church in Jerusalem, born on the day of Pentecost, through the preaching of Peter, was unwavering in their commitment to apostolic doctrine, which we now possess, recorded on the pages of God’s sufficient, written Word. And so, everything we do at Paarl Bible Church is based on a right interpretation and application of the Bible. This is why we’re devoted to text-driven expository preaching and biblical counseling.
  2. The Fellowship of the Saints (Acts 2:42b) – These first-century believers were wholly committed to ‘a common life together’ as the original term indicates. Indeed, when we’re saved to be part of Christ’s body, the church, it’s our spiritual duty to stimulate one another to ‘love and good deeds.’
  3. The Breaking of Bread (Acts 2:42c) – The Lord has given two ordinances to His church: Firstly, Believer’s Baptism, received by the saved in Jerusalem following conversion as we’re told in Acts 2:41. The second ordinance is the Lord’s Supper, here labelled ‘the breaking of bread,’ practiced with regularity to remember the death of Jesus, while anticipating His return.
  4. The Dependence of Prayer (Acts 2:42d) – When the very first church began, they exemplified complete dependence on God through consistent and faithful prayer. Paarl Bible Church is a praying church because our existence and spiritual sustenance find its source in the Triune God.
  5. The Attitude of Awe (Acts 2:43) – With the presence of legitimate, Christ-appointed apostles, great awe was produced in the first century through signs and wonders designed to verify apostolic teaching before the close of the Biblical canon. Although we don’t have apostles and the attending sign gifts today, we’re committed to cultivating an attitude of awe, which recognizes the work of God in the life of the church.
  6. The Sacrifice of Love (Acts 2:44-45) – In a unique situation with only one church in the world at the time, those who came from other towns and cities to celebrate Pentecost couldn’t leave Jerusalem after being saved. This meant that many were without work and in great need. Thankfully, Christian need never waits long for relief. At Paarl Bible Church, we want to be known by our sacrificial love because it imitates the love of our Savior. In the words of Titus 3:14, ‘Our people must also learn to engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful.’
  7. The Unity of Purpose (Acts 2:46-47a) – This is evidenced, as it was in Jerusalem, in our gathering, feasting, and praising. We’re unified in the truth, and we exist for the purpose of magnifying God and exalting His Son in all we do.
  8. The Salvation of Souls (Acts 2:47b) – Ultimately, the first church in history was committed to the proclamation of the Gospel, since it was through the means of evangelism that ‘the Lord was adding to their number those who were being saved.’ Paarl Bible Church is a church where everyone shares the task of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ among friends, family, and co-workers.

Meet Our Team

Steve Colin Pastor-Teacher / Elder

Steve Colin grew up in Hartbeespoort Dam and was saved at the age of 23. He attended the Expositors Seminary in Kansas City in August 2017 and was subsequently called by Grace Fellowship Pretoria in September 2019 as an associate pastor where he served alongside Joel James for six years. In 2025 he took on the role as adjunct professor at Shepherds Seminary Africa where he taught the Biblical Counselling class, but then in October 2025, he and his family relocated to Paarl in the Western Cape to plant Paarl Bible Church under the oversight of Grace Fellowship Pretoria. He is married to Lauren and they have three precious children: Levi, Luke and Eleanor.

Our History

In 1992, Dr. John MacArthur of Grace Community Church, Los Angeles, toured South Africa, preaching in a number of different cities. At that time, various people approached Dr MacArthur and expressed interest in starting Bible-teaching churches in their own communities. Eventually, Grace Fellowship was planted in Pretoria and over the next three decades, through God’s gracious enablement, Grace Fellowship has planted multiple churches (Sasolburg, Pretoria CBD, and Centurion) with the latest being Paarl Bible Church.
